Dulwich is a residential area which has undergone extensive gentrification in recent years. Built initially to house lower-middle class citizens, it has now grown into a very trendy, family orientated village and suburb. It has a very successful shopping area along Lordship Lane which, as well as many high quality independent shops, has a selection of restaurants and a greengrocer specializing in organic produce.

For all the family, on Fridays and Saturdays, there is a small market on North Cross Road with antiques, CDs, second-hand books and specialist food stalls. Almost all the pubs in the area have been converted to Gastropubs providing affluent residents with many more places to eat and drink.

Dulwich is also home to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, England’s first public gallery. Founded in 1811, it is full of art from the 1600 and 1700’s as well as many other influential artists such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Rembrandt and Tiepolo. There are constant new exhibitions and activities in the arts to suit all including public art courses, school education and community outreach opportunities. You can even hire the gallery for your Christmas party!

Dulwich is also home to a beautiful park just off Lordship lane. Historically Queen Mary was a regular visitor to the Garden and one of the park entrances 'Queen Mary's Gate' was named after her. She regularly visited as she was very fond of the landscape and floral displays within the park.

Dulwich Park contains a café, boating lake and numerous sporting facilities. Various types of recumbent bicycles are available for hire. Dulwich Park is a superb spot for families to picnic and enjoy good weather with healthy activities such as tennis, cricket and football.

This park is much loved by dog owners throughout the Dulwich area and is used constantly to ensure their health and social wellbeing is met. It is prime location for walking dogs as well as other parks in the East Dulwich area such as Goose Green which is on the corner of Lordship Lane and Dulwich Road. Although it is smaller, it is still a great local spot for walking your dog. Goose Green also has activities especially in summer that suit both family and family pets alike!
